Proposition 316

Prohibits local government from imposing or increasing a tax on groceries without voter approval, and caps the tax rate at 2%. Already, cities and towns have dealt with cuts to funding from the state government. This measure would cause local governments to lose over $150M a year, making it more difficult for them to fund transportation, public safety, road improvements, and vital services.

A YES vote hinders the ability of cities and towns to raise money through grocery taxes, potentially resulting in cuts to transportation, public safety, housing assistance, and more.

NO

A NO vote continues to give cities and towns the flexibility to raise money through grocery taxes as they see fit, allowing them to fund transportation, public safety, housing assistance, and more.
